Here is an inside look at my time in Gainesville!
August 2016
Center for Global Action
For those of you who don’t know, I moved to Gainesville, Georgia on January 29th to be apart of the Center for Global Action (CGA), a program of Adventures in Missions (the organization that sent me on my year-long mission trip in 2015). To remind you, CGA exists to mobilize a generation to be passionate followers of Jesus who live out their faith whether at home, professionally, or church planting overseas. It is an 8-month leadership and discipleship program that equips followers of Christ to recreate biblical community through teachings, scripture, and activation.
Update on the English as a Second Language Course:
Our first ESL course was a hit! Our group started small and quiet, but as the students and teachers became more comfortable with each other, families were bringing their friends along to weekly classes to learn more English. Our hope is to be able to empower the Hispanic community of Gainesville to learn English, and while through that, to build loving, Christ-centered friendships, and to eventually use it as a gateway for discipleship. We finished with a fun cultural night where the tables were turned and the students taught the teachers about the unique things of their Hispanic culture. The first course lasted for 7 weeks, and we are just about to start up the second round!
I started the summer with leading a short term missions trip to my own backyard, Gainesville. A high school youth group from Selma, Alabama came for a week to work alongside the local Boys & Girls Club. While here, the youth worked within the classrooms to help the teachers, engaged in manual labor to build a garden for the club, engaged in a day of evangelism, and were simply ready to serve in whatever way was needed! It was a blessing to get to know these precious high schoolers and to serve the local community.
Pictured is one of the local Boys and Girls Club that we partnered with, as well as an afternoon spent teaching the club members how to rollerblade. It was such a fun and rewarding time.
What is Adventures in Missions doing globally?
Adventures currently has 775 participants on the field in 23 countries! There are 89 Long-Term Missionaries and staff serving full-time in 14 countries. Please be praying for everyone’s safety, health, ability to hear from the Lord and strength to continue serving.
Financial Update:
In order to be apart of this amazing program, I need to fundraise a total of $7,450. This is the amount that CGA requires me to fundraise. Adventures in Missions is a faith-mission and my financial support come from a team of people who want to invest through prayers and financial support. I am deeply grateful and appreciative of all who are on my support team. I officially have $6,050 of the $7,450! Praise the Lord! I am in the home-stretch and only need $1,400. Every single donation of any amount helps significantly. If you would like to make a donation, you can visit my blog at [email protected] and click the support me! tab. Or, send a check to PO Box 742570 Atlanta, GA 30374-2570, with the check written out to Adventures in Missions with Meg McCluskey in the memo. Thank you for investing in what the Lord is doing in my life, and what He may be preparing me for in the future.
Thank you all for taking an interest in my life and supporting me on this journey! I’m so thankful to have you in my life! Love, Megan
